Trinidad, Texas, located in western Henderson County on the Trinity River, was settled before 1840, initially serving as a river ferry crossing. Known early as Trinity Switch, it developed as a railroad town in 1880, later thriving in the 1920s due to the Texas Power and Light plant. The town is famous for its small school system and for winning the 1998 six-man football state title. Settlement began before 1840 with O.M. Airhart operating a ferry across the Trinity River.
