Kaufman County

Kaufman County is a county in the northeastern area of the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 145,310, and was estimated to be 209,235 in 2025. The county seat is Kaufman. Kaufman County was created on February 26, 1848 and was organized on August 7, 1848, and the city was named for David S. Kaufman, a U.S. Representative and diplomat from Texas. Kaufman County is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Kaufman County is home to more than 145,000 people, 16 cities, four independent school districts, two colleges, and thousands of thriving businesses. Kaufman County has recently been named by the US Census Bureau as the fastest growing county in the nation. Interstate 20 runs through the heart of Kaufman County which is located just 30 minutes east of Dallas, Texas, and just over two hours west of the Louisiana state line. Some like to say Kaufman County is where east Texas begins.
